Conflicting reports suggest fewer Apple Vision Pro units available at launch, with Ming-Chi Kuo predicting a smaller number than previously expected. Availability of launch units for Apple products has always been a question, with tight supplies for larger iPhone Pro models in the past. The cylindrical Mac Pro shipped with less than 1,000 units initially to meet a year-end deadline.
In November, sources from the Chinese supply chain predicted 400,000 units at launch, with other forecasts in a similar range. Kuo’s estimate of 80,000 units would be a new low prediction if accurate. The timing of the launch is also earlier than typical for Apple, as the company usually provides a wide availability window like “early 2024.” The Mac Pro launch was similarly rushed to meet a year-end deadline.
In a post on Tuesday, Kuo initially praised Apple’s showcase of the technology at the introduction, but noted that “more important information about the product’s position and key applications” was left out.
