CES 2024 is the last chance for AR and VR headset producers to make an impression before Apple Vision Pro’s release. Other manufacturers have only a few weeks to impress the public with their devices. At the trade show, Sony announced plans to create a Spatial Content Creation System, including a high-quality XR head-mounted display and controllers for 3D object interaction. The headset will use 1.3-inch 4K OLED microdisplays and six external cameras for a see-through function. Sony’s unnamed mixed-reality headset, intended for content production, will run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 Platform. Asus showcased the AirVision M1 smart glasses, offering virtual screens and a 1080p resolution for each eye. Xreal introduced the Air 2 Ultra AR glasses with full positional tracking and a Sony micro OLED panel. Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 platform with improved GPU and CPU frequency and AI performance. While CES 2024 did not introduce any real competition to Apple Vision Pro, Sony’s headset, Xreal’s AR glasses, and Qualcomm’s chip update could potentially pose competition in the future.
