Apple Store employees in Barcelona are planning to strike on December 23. They are demanding holiday bonuses and better scheduling. The strike is being promoted by the CGT Apple union and will take place outside the Passeig de Gracia Apple Store. It appears that the strike will only affect this one store.
According to the union’s website and social media, the strike will last for 24 hours on December 23. However, workers are not required to be there the whole time and can choose how long they participate.
The strike was decided on in an assembly on Thursday and calls for various changes in working practices at the store. The demands include regular shifts with fixed in and out times, as well as monthly delivery of schedules up to three months in advance.
This strike comes three months after Apple Store employees in France went on strike due to Apple refusing a pay rise request. The French strike involved multiple retail unions and was in response to Apple’s refusal to grant a 7% pay rise to offset inflation.
